In case you didn't get the memo, Katie Couric has left the "Today" show -- presumably forever. If you are like me, you rolled your eyes when you first halfway-noticed this is actually making the headlines, and ignored the issue until some fool had to go and remind you.
I actually learned about Ms. Couric's departure from -- I kid you not -- a former journalism professor of mine, who brought it up in an e-mail.
I'm not sure why our culture obsesses on such issues. I'm sure Ms. Couric is a very nice lady and this is an exciting time for her and all. And I fear the rath of her die-hard fans who are going to e-mail me and call me an insensitive jerk for mocking her life-altering moment. But whether you love Katie Couric, hate Katie Couric, or really just don't care, if you pull your head out of the sand today, you will find it impossible to avoid online chatter about her high-profile career change.
But to my fellow humans who, like me, really don't care, I have good news. For one day -- for one, glorious day -- it seems this hard-hitting news event is giving us a break from all the headlines about Angelina Jolie's baby.
(Oh, by the way, I think we might still be at war or something. Somebody should look into that.)
