My room at the Luxor had several notices encouraging people to conserve energy. These notices reminded hotel guests that Las Vegas is in the desert and water is scarce, so please don't shower too long. Hang towels on the rack if you want to reuse them. Please turn off lights as you leave your room. These notices were accompanied by heartfelt explanations that the Luxor is extremely concerned with energy conservation.
A Las Vegas casino concerned with energy conservation? Pardon my skepticism, but I couldn't help noticing that the Luxor website brags that the top of the hotel has "the world's brightest beam of light" -- one of the only lights in the world that can be seen from outer space.
While the Luxor didn't impress me with its energy conservation schemes, the Desert Passage Casino seemed to be going to the opposite extreme. Somebody there needs to invest in a lightbulb.
