One More Reason to Hate McDonald's
As if McDonald's wasn't looking bad enough with the recent release of Morgan Spurlock's Documentary, "Super Size Me," now the restaurant chain has decided to air television commercials that ridicule short men.
Here's my uppity short guy's angry letter to their corporate offices:
Yesterday, I saw an ad in which two businesswomen are talking. One says to the other, “So anyway, my brother David comes over for dinner last night with his new fiancée, and she’s very nice, except here’s the best part… she’s four inches taller than him! Can you believe it?… And you’ll never believe what was stuck to his pants.”My basic question for you is: What were you thinking? Do you have any idea how offensive this ad is to short men? Would you run an ad in which one woman said to the other, “She’s very nice, except here’s the best part: She’s black?”
Of course you wouldn’t. But I have the same control over my height as an African-American has over his or her race. Neither attribute deserves ridicule.
Or how about this: “She’s very nice, except here’s the best part: She’s really fat!”
No, I don’t see you running that ad either. I’ve seen “Super Size Me,” and it seems that’s a demographic you would want to stay on good terms with.
The reality of the situation is that our culture is rife with discrimination against people whose bodies fall into a minority group of one sort or another. This discrimination can be based on race, disability, or body size. Obese people and short men are both easy targets. I would expect more sensitivity from a corporation as big as McDonald’s though.
Of all the punch lines the writers of that ad could have come up with, I am surprised they would choose one that ridicules a segment of our society. I don’t know what personal insecurities they are wrestling with to write such an ad, but it’s pretty pathetic.
Your ad is insensitive and degrading. I am finished eating at McDonald’s.

I have to say as a worker of McDonalds, fuck you! Not just you though. You know, if I wanted to find something in every commercial for every major corperation to offend me. It wouldnt be that hard. Another thing, fuck you customers that want to come in and bitch about how long it takes you to get your food when the drive-thru line is filled out to the streets and the inside is packed to the brim with 40 assholes just like you.
